LINEAR SI – neoprene bearing strip for precast concrete
LINEAR SI is an unreinforced neoprene bearing strip designed for controlled load distribution at line supports of precast and cast-in-place concrete, steel and other structures. It is an elastomeric bearing strip laid under precast concrete beams, hollow-core and floor slabs and wall panels. It allows horizontal displacements and rotations to be transferred to the support without inducing additional stresses, protects the edges of reinforced concrete elements from spalling and compensates for unevenness of the bearing surface and deviations from the horizontal plane. Neoprene strips in standard sizes are kept in stock and delivered within 1–2 days. The maximum permissible load by strip width, installation guidance and tolerances are given in the LINEAR SI technical data sheet (PDF).
Where the LINEAR SI neoprene strip is used
- Line supports of precast concrete beams, slabs, walls and other elements.
- Supports of cast-in-place concrete structures.
- Supports of steel structures.
- Supports of other structures where the load must be distributed evenly and surface unevenness compensated.
Key properties of LINEAR SI
- Maximum permissible characteristic load Fk,max from 60 kN/m’ (20 mm wide strip) to 150 kN/m’ (50 mm wide strip); intermediate values can be determined by interpolation.
- Distributes the load evenly at the support and protects the edges of reinforced concrete elements from spalling.
- Allows supported elements to rotate and transfers horizontal displacements without inducing additional stresses in the support.
- Compensates for unevenness of the bearing surface and deviations from the horizontal plane.
- Made of unreinforced neoprene with a hardness of 65 Sh A.
Installation
Unreinforced strips expand under load, so we generally recommend leaving a gap of at least 25 mm (including chamfers) between the edge of the supporting structure and the strip. Before installation, make sure the strip surface is free from dirt, grease, solvents, ice and oil.
Neoprene strip dimensions and loads
Standard thicknesses are 10, 15 and 20 mm; other thicknesses are available to special order. Stocked widths are 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 mm; other widths are made to order. Tolerances: hardness ±5 Sh A, length ±5 mm, width ±3 mm, thickness ±1 mm.
| Width | Thickness | Fk,max |
|---|---|---|
| 20 mm | 10, 15, 20 mm | 60 kN/m’ |
| 25 mm | 10, 15, 20 mm | 75 kN/m’ |
| 30 mm | 10, 15, 20 mm | 90 kN/m’ |
| 40 mm | 10, 15, 20 mm | 120 kN/m’ |
| 50 mm | 10, 15, 20 mm | 150 kN/m’ |
Ordering and delivery of neoprene strips
LINEAR SI neoprene strips in standard thicknesses and widths are kept in stock, so we deliver them within 1–2 days. Neoprene strips in other thicknesses and widths are made to order. To get a quote, specify the required strip width, thickness and total length, or send us the project specification.
Frequently asked questions
Is LINEAR SI a neoprene bearing strip?
Yes. LINEAR SI is made of unreinforced neoprene with a hardness of 65 Sh A. This neoprene strip distributes the load evenly at the support, protects element edges from spalling and compensates for surface unevenness. In international practice this product is also called an elastomeric bearing strip or a bearing strip for precast concrete.
What load can a LINEAR SI strip carry?
The maximum permissible characteristic load Fk,max depends on the strip width: 20 mm – 60 kN/m’, 25 mm – 75 kN/m’, 30 mm – 90 kN/m’, 40 mm – 120 kN/m’, 50 mm – 150 kN/m’. The values apply to 10, 15 and 20 mm thick strips; intermediate values can be determined by interpolation.
What gap should be left from the edge of the support?
Unreinforced strips expand under load, so we generally recommend a gap of at least 25 mm (including chamfers) between the edge of the supporting structure and the strip.
What sizes can be ordered?
Standard thicknesses are 10, 15 and 20 mm, and stocked widths are 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 mm. Strips of other thicknesses and widths are made to order.
Is LINEAR SI suitable for stair impact sound insulation?
No. LINEAR SI is a plain solid strip intended for static structural supports. For impact sound insulation of stair flights and landings, choose the profiled elastomeric strip TYPE W.
Do you keep neoprene strips in stock?
Yes. Neoprene strips in standard thicknesses (10, 15 and 20 mm) and widths (20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 mm) are kept in stock and delivered within 1–2 days. Other sizes are made to order.
